Keep yourself and your employees safe during the pandemic

March 30, 2020

It’s not business as usual anymore. COVID-19 has changed day-to-day life for everyone. Here are some ways you can protect yourself and your employees.

BASIC HEALTHY HABITS

  • Wash your hands often and avoid touching your face. If you’re away from soap and water, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Routinely sanitize frequently touched surfaces such as keyboards, phones, doorknobs and light switches.
  • Sneeze or cough into a tissue or the inside of your elbow.

OTHER PRECAUTIONS

  • Follow federal, state, and local mandates.
  • Avoid crowded spaces and groups of more than 10.
  • Stay home as much as possible.
  • Order take-out food and utilize delivery services.
  • Don’t visit nursing homes, retirement communities or hospitals unless you are there to provide critical care.
  • Work from home and allow your employees to do the same if possible.
  • Consider moving as many of your work processes online as is possible. Telemedicine and virtual meetings will let you and employees get needed interaction without leaving home.
  • If you suspect you have the virus, call your doctor before seeking medical attention.
  • Don’t go to work if you’re feeling sick.
  • Assure your employees that they won’t be penalized for calling in sick.
  • If you are older, or have a serious health issue, stay at home and away from other people.
  • If you or someone in your home tests positive, keep the entire household at home.

CHOOSE WISELY

  • Troubled times bring out not only the best in us but also the worst. Scammers will attempt to take advantage of the situation. Think before you click and make sure your employees are up to date on good cyber safety practices.
  • Rely on trusted sources for news. Rumors can arise on social media. Get your information from reliable sources, including major network news, coronavirus.gov and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
